Is U Prep Schools a public school?
Yes. U Prep Schools is a free public charter school network in Detroit. There is no tuition. U Prep follows the same state academic standards as any other Michigan public school.

Yes. Every Public School Academies of Detroit board meeting is open to the public. Parents, scholars, staff, and anyone from the community can attend and watch how decisions get made. As a public charter school network, U Prep believes families should be able to see how their scholars' schools are run.

Where are the 2026-2027 PSAD board meetings held?
All six PSAD board meetings for the 2026-2027 school year are held at University Prep Science & Math High School, 2664 Franklin St., Detroit, MI 48207. Every meeting is at the same location this year, so families only need to remember one address for the whole school year.

When is the U Prep annual budget hearing?
The Annual Budget Hearing is part of the June 23, 2027 PSAD board meeting. This is when the board reviews and approves U Prep's budget for the school year. It's one of the most important meetings of the year for anyone who wants to know how U Prep spends public dollars.

Who authorizes U Prep Schools?
U Prep Schools is authorized by Grand Valley State University. An authorizer is the organization that grants a charter school its license and holds it accountable for academic results and finances.

How do I get a copy of the meeting minutes?
Meeting minutes are available for public inspection. Contact Peter Webster at (248) 433-7513 to request a copy. Minutes are not posted online, so a call is the fastest way to get them.
