In the heart of University Prep Academy Middle School, a symphony of creativity and artistic expression echoes through the corridors. UPA Middle School proudly stands as the sole institution in the University Prep Schools district with an in-school performing arts program, offering scholars a unique opportunity to explore the realms of dance and orchestra.

Led by the dedicated Mrs. Lauren Taylor, the Dance Department has flourished into a vibrant hub of creativity since its inception in 2016. Students in grades 6-8 embark on a transformative journey through various dance styles, from classical ballet to modern and African dance. Under Mrs. Taylor's guidance, the dance family has ventured to prestigious venues like the Detroit Opera House, captivating audiences with their performances at Noel Night and other citywide celebrations.

Meanwhile, Mr. Taylor, a stalwart with over a decade of commitment, leads the Orchestra Program with passion. This platform for personal growth and self-discovery sees scholars perform at community events, competitions, and festivals throughout the year. The program has even graced the Chills and Thrills Music Festival, earning accolades and valuable feedback from judges.

What makes UPA Middle School truly unique is the collaboration between the Dance Department and Orchestra Program. Together, they create unforgettable moments during the Winter and Spring Concerts, showcasing the synergy between dance, music, and the performing arts. These performances highlight the scholars' progress and artistic brilliance.

As Mrs. Taylor and Mr. Taylor reflect on their journeys, they share a common vision for the future – to nurture the next generation of artists and instill in them a love for the performing arts. Together, they stand as pillars of inspiration, guiding scholars on a journey of self-discovery, expression, and excellence through the performing arts programs at University Prep Academy Middle School.
