The Leaders Behind the Mission: Celebrating Our Principals

October is National Principals Month, and at University Prep Schools, we’re celebrating the extraordinary leaders who guide our campuses with purpose, passion, and deep care for our scholars and families.

At U Prep, principals are not just administrators. They are mentors, motivators, and the steady hand that helps each school thrive. They walk alongside our scholars, support our teachers, and lead with a vision rooted in community, equity, and excellence.

In the University Prep Academy district, Shaura Robinson starts Year 2, this time as principal of Ellen Thompson Elementary, and Mayla Spruill leads Mark Murray Elementary. Both create joyful, structured environments where our youngest learners grow with confidence. At UPA Middle, Kyra White empowers scholars to take ownership of their learning while building strong relationships. At UPA High, Savannah Henning champions student voice and prepares scholars for life after graduation with intention and care.

In the U Prep Science and Math district, Bianca Morgan leads U Prep Science & Math Elementary with warmth and a commitment to early success. Geoff Williams supports academic and social growth at U Prep Science & Math Middle by creating a school culture grounded in connection and high expectations. At U Prep Science & Math High, Jerry Lawrence helps scholars develop their leadership and pursue excellence in STEM and beyond.

In the U Prep Art and Design district, Shanay Gilchrist fosters a culture of creativity and care at UPAD Elementary, where scholars are encouraged to think critically and express themselves. Shannon Byrne leads UPAD Middle with consistency and heart, helping students thrive through the middle grades. At UPAD High, Lauryn Hood-Smith fosters a learning environment where innovation and real-world readiness are seamlessly integrated.

These ten incredible principals are the backbone of U Prep Schools. They build safe, vibrant school communities where young people are seen, challenged, and supported. Their leadership changes lives. And we think it’s worth celebrating not just this month, but every day.
