U Prep Schools Awarded $100,000 Grant for Sidney Miller Field

In a significant milestone for U Prep Schools’ Athletics Department, The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation has awarded a $100,000 grant through its Game On-Community Places to Play Initiative. The funding will support the continued renovation of the Sidney Miller Field at University Prep Science & Math (UPSM), transforming it into a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose sports facility that will serve as a hub for both athletics and community engagement.
Out of hundreds of applicants nationwide, U Prep Schools was one of only 20 organizations selected to receive a share of the $1.7 million in grant funding. The initiative, a collaboration between The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), aims to enhance sports facilities in under-resourced neighborhoods.
“The rejuvenation of sports facilities is not just an investment in infrastructure but an investment in the future of youth athletes,” said Rick Jordan, Vice President of The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation.
The project required applicants to secure matching funds, ensuring strong financial support, while LISC will provide technical assistance to expedite the completion of the facility. For U Prep Schools, the transformation of Sidney Miller Field aligns with its mission to deliver holistic educational experiences.
“This upgraded facility will not only expand athletic opportunities for our scholars but also foster school pride and strengthen community connections,” said Ray Haggard, Director of U Prep Athletics. “We are thrilled to finally see our vision of a U Prep-quality sports venue come to life, offering a safe and inspiring space for youth to compete, exercise, and build lifelong memories.”
The renovated Miller Field will accommodate a variety of athletic activities, serving as a beacon of opportunity and excellence for scholars and the broader community. U Prep Schools expressed heartfelt gratitude to The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation and LISC for their support.
