It’s one thing to build a robot on a desk. It’s another to engineer a vehicle that can navigate the pressures of an underwater mission under the watchful eyes of judges and competitors.

On April 11, UPSM High School scholars Jason Mattison and Janae Styles did exactly that. Competing in the Square One Underwater Innovative Vehicle Design (IVD) Competition, they proved that U Prep scholars don't just study science—they apply it.

Building and operating a uROV (underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle) requires more than just technical skill; it requires composure. Jason and Janae successfully completed their missions, racked up competition points, and sat across from a panel of judges to defend their design.

They didn't just pass the safety inspection—they performed with such excellence that they helped secure approval for their program’s grant, ensuring the next generation of UPSM engineers has the tools they need to lead.
