It's one thing to study the material. It's another to apply it under pressure, in front of an audience, against the best competitors in the state.

Our scholars did exactly that — and they came home with hardware.

Over the weekend, U Prep scholars from multiple schools competed in the 51st Michigan League of Academic Games Super Tournament, and we couldn't be more proud of what they accomplished.

The Results: UPAD & UPSM

Under the guidance of Coach Mathis, the teams from UPAD High School and UPAD Academy of Games delivered standout performances across multiple events:

  • UPAD Paw Patrol — 1st Place State Champions (Intermediate On-Sets)
5× Back-to-Back State Champions. Not once. Five times in a row.
  • UPAD Paw Patrol — 2nd Place (Intermediate Equations)
  • UPAD Paw Patrol — Honorable Mention (Current Events)
  • UPAD 2Tuff Society — 3rd Place (Intermediate On-Sets)
  • UPAD/UPSM Combo Team Wombat — 3rd Place (Intermediate Equations)
  • UPAD/UPSM Combo Team Wombat — 3rd Place (Intermediate On-Sets)

What This Means

Five consecutive state championships in On-Sets is not luck. It is the product of preparation, discipline, and a school culture that takes academic excellence seriously in every arena — not just on standardized tests, but in competitions that demand creative thinking, speed, and strategy under pressure.

The UPAD/UPSM Combo Team Wombat is a reminder that when our districts come together, we are even stronger. Collaboration is part of the U Prep DNA.

Thank You, Coach Mathis

Behind every championship team is a coach who believed first. Coach Mathis has built something special at UPAD — a program where scholars don't just learn the game, they master it. This recognition belongs to every scholar who competed, and to the coach who prepared them.

Detroit, your scholars are showing up and showing out. We are so proud.

Congratulations to every U Prep scholar who competed at the 51st Michigan League of Academic Games. Champions — every one of you.
