Every U Prep Board Meeting Is Open to You

U Prep Schools is a free public charter school network. That means the people who run it answer to the public, and that includes you. Every Public School Academies of Detroit (PSAD) board meeting is open. Parents, scholars, staff, and anyone from the Detroit community can walk in and watch how decisions get made about the schools your scholars attend.

Here is the full 2026-2027 schedule, plus what these meetings actually do.

All six meetings are held at the same place this year: University Prep Science & Math High School, 2664 Franklin St., Detroit, MI 48207. Every meeting starts at 12:00 pm.

Why the Budget Hearing Matters

The June 23, 2027 meeting is bigger than the rest. It includes the Annual Budget Hearing, where the PSAD board reviews and approves how U Prep spends its money for the school year. If you want to understand how a public charter school funds its classrooms, staff, and programs, this is the meeting to attend.

Two Boards, Two Jobs

U Prep Schools is governed by two boards, and it can be confusing to see two names doing what sounds like the same job. It is not.

Public School Academies of Detroit (PSAD) holds U Prep's charter with Grand Valley State University, the school's authorizer. PSAD is responsible for the budget, academic results, and making sure U Prep follows state law. This is the board that holds the Annual Budget Hearing.

Detroit 90/90 is the organization that runs U Prep's schools day-to-day. It staffs classrooms and manages all three districts: University Prep Academy (UPA), University Prep Science & Math (UPSM), and University Prep Art & Design (UPAD).

Think of it this way. PSAD holds U Prep accountable. Detroit 90/90 does the daily work of educating scholars. Both boards exist because U Prep takes both jobs seriously: doing the work and answering for the work.
