Teacher Appreciation Week 2026 runs May 4–8, and at University Prep Schools in Detroit, Michigan, we are celebrating with a full heart. This year is extra special — UPrep is marking 25 years of first-class staff who have shown up, day in and day out, for our scholars. The theme says it perfectly: Take Flight.

What Is Teacher Appreciation Week?

Teacher Appreciation Week is a national observance held the first full week of May each year. It is a time for schools, families, and communities to recognize the educators and staff who make a difference in students' lives every day. In 2026, Teacher Appreciation Week runs May 4–8, 2026.

How University Prep Schools Is Celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week 2026

This year, U Prep is honoring the incredible teachers and staff across all three of its Detroit campuses — University Prep Academy (UPA), University Prep Art & Design (UPAD), and University Prep Science & Math (UPSM) — with a theme that captures exactly what great educators do: they help scholars take flight.

Twenty-five years. Thousands of lessons taught. Hundreds of lives changed. Countless moments where a UPrep teacher believed in a scholar before that scholar believed in themselves. That is what we are celebrating this week.

Why U Prep Teachers Are First-Class

First class is not just a phrase on a flyer. It is what happens every day inside UPrep classrooms and hallways across Detroit.

It looks like a teacher spending her lunch break with a student who is not quite getting it yet — and refusing to give up until they do. It looks like a staff member who knows every scholar's name by the second week of school. It looks like a whole team pulling together on the hard days because they know the mission is bigger than any bad morning.

That is U Prep staff. That is first-class.

25 Years of Educators Helping Detroit Scholars Soar

When University Prep Schools opened its doors 25 years ago, it was built on one belief: every Detroit scholar deserves a great education, no matter their zip code.

That belief only works if great people show up to deliver it. And for 25 years, they have.

Some UPrep staff have been here since the beginning. Others are newer to the family. But every single one of them carries the same commitment — stronger systems, stronger schools, stronger scholars.

What Detroit Teachers and School Staff Do Every Day

Our teachers, instructional aides, counselors, coaches, front office teams, and support staff do far more than their job descriptions say. They plan and reteach. They call home. They cheer at games and graduations. They show up early and stay late. They are the reason UPrep schools do not just run — they thrive.

It is not just a job. It is a calling. And UPrep staff answer that call every single day.

Thank You to Every U Prep Teacher and Staff Member

To every teacher, aide, counselor, coach, front office team member, and staff member across UPA, UPAD, and UPSM — this week is yours.

Thank you for your dedication. I appreciate your passion. Thank you for believing in our scholars and in the mission of University Prep Schools.

You help our scholars take flight every day. We hope this week, you feel how much that matters.

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week 2026. You have earned every bit of this celebration.
