U Prep Science and Math High Revs Up Learning Ahead of Detroit Grand Prix

Thanks to a dynamic partnership with Visit Detroit, scholars at University Prep Science and Math High School (UPSM) turbocharged their learning just in time for the recent Detroit Grand Prix.

Beyond being a thrilling sporting event, the Detroit Grand Prix served as a platform for educational enrichment. Leading up to the race, UPSM scholars delved into hands-on learning experiences directly tied to STEM principles. This included exploring the engineering wonders of race cars, unraveling the physics of speed and motion, and analyzing the mathematical intricacies of race strategy.

Thanks to the partnership, Visit Detroit granted our students exclusive access to behind-the-scenes tours, workshops with industry experts, and opportunities to meet influential figures in the racing world, such as trailblazer Myles Rowe, the sole Black driver in the Indy NXT by Firestone series. Rowe’s journey and accomplishments in a predominantly white sport stood as a potent inspiration, underscoring the significance of diversity and representation in all fields.

These immersive experiences ignited a fervor for STEM among our scholars, showcasing the real-world applications of their studies and unlocking pathways to future careers in science and technology. By immersing themselves in the intricate workings of the Grand Prix, from car design to race-day logistics, our scholars gained a deeper insight into how their education can translate into dynamic and exhilarating careers.

University Prep Science and Math High School remains committed to providing our scholars with exceptional learning opportunities. Collaborations like the one with Visit Detroit played a pivotal role in achieving this objective, enabling us to inspire and equip the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators.

As the Detroit Grand Prix unfolded, our scholars experienced the pulse-pounding excitement of the race and the limitless possibilities that STEM education affords. Together with Visit Detroit, we charted a course toward a brighter future for our students and our community.
